Educational Resources/FAQ

A PACS Administrator is the healthcare professional responsible for the complex set of functions necessary to achieve successful informatics. These imaging informatics professionals must work with a foot in the clinical healthcare and information technology realms. Because of this, the most successful PACS administrators are adept at communicating with highly technical personnel while possessing a thorough understanding of the radiological diagnostic process and health imaging informatics. Attendance of this course earns you 3 points toward ABII's 7-point qualification system.

Learn the exact criteria to qualify to take the CIIP certification exam from the ABII or learn more about becoming a PACS Administrator!

Due to the increased need for flexible, remote learning opportunities, the MTMI PACS Administrator Course offers two convenient options for students: a live simulcast webinar and a new online self-paced course.

Students attending the simulcast webinar will be connected to the live classroom via Zoom, allowing them to fully participate in the interactive training experience in real time.

For those who prefer to learn on their own schedule, our online self-paced course provides the same high-quality content, accessible anytime, anywhere.

These added options make it possible for more imaging professionals to enhance their skills and advance their careers—regardless of location or schedule.

The Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) certification is a widely respected and required credential for professionals who work in imaging informatics. Certifications last ten years and include continuing education requirements along the way. The certification exam is provided by the American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII), who designed it to align with the standards of The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

There are several benefits to earning your CIIP certification. First, this is a strong sign to employers that you are qualified and able to thrive in picture archiving and communication systems roles. Certification also shows that you have an interest in performing to the best of your abilities while keeping up with best practices and innovations.

Once you earn your certification, it is important to understand the requirements for remaining in good standing. To start, there is an annual renewal fee of $70, due by December 31st each year. Additionally, every two years, individuals must take 24 credits of continuing education requirements.

With a constant stream of new technology and innovation in the field of healthcare, it is important to require continuing education courses and a 10-year renewal calendar. This helps professionals stay up to date in their professional abilities and deliver the best patient outcomes available at that time.

You may be wondering if you need to earn a degree for PACS certification to work as a professional in this critical area of healthcare. While many colleges and universities offer PACS-focused degree programs, this is not the most common entrance into this career path.

In fact, according to insights from our interview blog about PACS, many healthcare systems prefer to hire PACS professionals with clinical credentials and PACS training because they have real-world experience. With professional experience, candidates are better equipped to confidently work in their roles and with other team members from day one.
