About This Seminar
The growth in technology of nuclear medicine imaging and the
emerging field of molecular imaging are driving an increased
utilization of nuclear medicine clinical procedures and the
expansion of facilities. This creates a challenge for clinical
medical physicists to stay up-to-date on this technology,
participate in equipment performance surveys and acceptance tests
and establish quality control programs for these systems. The
American College of Radiology (ACR) has established a voluntary
accreditation program for Nuclear Medicine facilities consisting for
four modules: General Nuclear Medicine, SPECT, Nuclear Cardiology
and PET Imaging. The ACR has also established continuing education
requirements for medical physicists and others working with these
facilities which are currently in effect. This 3-day seminar will
provide a comprehensive series of presentations covering the four
modules of ACR accreditation. Recommended surveying and QC
procedures will be emphasized along with a review of the technology,
instrumentation and radiation safety for this field.
|
Educational Objectives
At the completion of this program,
participants should have learned:
- About the calibration and radiation safety of radiopharmaceuticals used in nuclear medicine.
- The technology of state-of-the-art gamma cameras, SPECT and PET units.
- Acceptance testing and quality assurance procedures for nuclear medicine equipment.
- Cardiac nuclear medicine clinical applications using various technologies.
- Shielding requirements for PET facilities.
- ACR and ICANL accreditation requirements and procedures for nuclear medicine facilities.
