Practical PACS
8 Hours ARRT Category A Credit
Alexander Tune, MBA, RT(R), CIIP
About this Seminar
This seminar is designed to explore PACS (Picture Archiving & Communication Systems) and other
radiology specific systems used in digital imaging. The Transition to PACS has affected all
aspects of radiology operations and technologists need to know what to expect in order to make
the transition successful. Now more than ever, the role of the technologist is expanding from
just taking x-rays to becoming an integral part of the radiology operation. You can update
your skills and improve your understanding of how to work with this technology. This seminar
will help you prepare for the challenges that technologists face today as well as new challenges
on the horizon. This seminar will also help prepare you for the CIIP
(Certified Imaging Informatics Professional) exam accredited by the ARRT.
Educational Objectives
At the completion of this seminar, participants will:
Identify the major components of a PACS, their functions and common terminology.
Understand common PACS connectivity issues.
Understand common integration issues in radiology.
Understand common workflow issues with PACS.
Describe the basics of networking in a radiology department and how image and demographic data is transmitted.
Alexander holds a master's degree in business administration from St. Joseph's college,
numerous IT certifications as well as the American Board of imaging informatics
certification recognized by the ARRT. He has over 13 years experience in diagnostic
radiology including positions as a staff technologist and as a supervisor. He is currently
the Radiology IT Manager for a continuously expanding health network in New York City
which includes two level one trauma centers. Mr. Tune has faced many challenges in
successfully integrating enterprise scale radiology networks and integrating radiology
with other ancillary and hospital wide systems. He has worked with a large variety of
hardware and software from major vendors. Due to his experience as a staff technologist and
supervisor, Alex can teach you what technologists need to know about working with PACS. He will
share his knowledge of making everything work together in a growing, changing, increasingly complex
and interdependent digital environment.
Who Should Attend
Medical imaging personnel from radiology and cardiology including managers, supervisors and
technologists from hospitals and imaging centers interested in PACS and other healthcare-specific
systems will find this seminar of value. It is also appropriate for hospital IT staff involved
with PACS deployment and integration projects as well as personnel from vendors providing such systems.
Medical imaging personnel who wish to take the CIIP exam will likewise find this seminar very beneficial.
Seminar Credit
Accreditation is awarded through the American Healthcare Radiology Administrators (AHRA). This seminar provides 8 hours of Category A continuing education credit for
radiologic technologists recognized by the ARRT and various licensure states.
A certificate of attendance will be provided for each individual upon
completion of the course. All attendees must attend the entire course to
receive full credit.
