Breast Ultrasound Registry Review
Mary Henne, MS, CNMT, RDMS, RVT
|
|
About this Seminar
This seminar can be used as an aid in preparing for both ARDMS and ARRT registry exams.
It will provide an opportunity to learn ultrasound imaging techniques and to upgrade
your skills in this increasingly demanding role. Ultrasound has proven to be a very
valuable and cost-effective tool for visualizing cystic and solid structures in the breast.
Ultrasound provides a complementary imaging technique to mammography and together they provide
improved detection of breast cancer. Special knowledge and skill is needed to fully
utilize the capabilities of breast ultrasound. This seminar will provide increased knowledge
of the technical and clinical aspects of breast ultrasound and an overview of the basic
principles and concepts of ultrasound.
|
Educational Objectives
At the completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
- Optimize preparation for ARRT and ARDMS Breast Ultrasound Registry exams.
- Understand how the basic principles and instrumentation of ultrasound affect the technique of breast ultrasound.
- Recognize normal breast anatomy on the ultrasound image and evaluate lesions for their benign or malignant features.
- Recall the mammographic and ultrasonic features of specific benign and malignant lesions.
- Explain the role and importance of mammography, ultrasound, MRI nuclear medicine,
and ductography in the work up and management of the breast.
- Recognize breast ultrasound artifacts, understand why they occur.
- Develop an awareness of the invasive procedures that are available, as well as, the benefits and limitations of each.
- Define the different surgical and nonsurgical treatment options for patients who develop breast cancer.
