Digital Breast Tomosynthesis: Imaging and Implementation
8 Hours ARRT Category A Credit
Shelly Lille', BS, RT(R)(M)
About this Seminar
Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a new application of digital mammography recently
approved by the FDA. DBT provides thin cross sectional images through the breast. This prevents
overlying structures from obscuring breast masses and prevents intersecting normal structures
from being falsely identified as cancer. DBT increases the reliability of detecting abnormal
structures while reducing patient call backs. This seminar will review the techniques and
implementation of DBT, its practical application in the clinical setting and changes in
required quality control procedures. DBT is considered a new modality under MQSA which
requires all personnel to receive 8 hours of training before participating in clinical services.
Educational Objectives
At the completion of this seminar,
participants will be able to:
Compare DBT to earlier methods using 2D mammography.
Understand how DBT imaging is performed.
Examine the benefits of 3D imaging for mammography.
Shelly holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from
the State of New York at Cortland, has been an active
technologist since 1979, and currently is an independent
mammography consultant. For approximately six years, Shelly
held the position of Chief Technologist at the world-renowned
Wende Logan-Young, MD Breast Clinic in Rochester, New York,
where she played a key role in operation of the clinic. Shelly
has consulted with manufacturers on the design of mammography
systems and has conducted many educational programs for
mammographers throughout the United States and Canada. Shelly
is co-author of a technique and positioning book on
mammography. Shelly's extensive knowledge and experience in mammography
will make this a very rewarding educational experience.
Seminar Credit
An application for 8 hours of Category A continuing education credit recognized
by the ARRT for radiologic technologists has been filed. This will serve as the
8 hours of Digital Breast Tomosynthesis training required by MQSA. A certificate
of attendance will be provided for each individual upon completion of the seminar.
All attendees must attend the entire seminar to receive full credit.
