About these Seminars
Pathology and Diagnostic Imaging
Recognition of the pathological processes present in your images is key to ensuring a
successful imaging exam. This seminar will review the pathology of major anatomical
systems commonly presented in various diagnostic imaging examinations and help you
recognize the difference between normal and abnormal structures. This knowledge will
help you understand the disease processes presented by your patients and improve your
effectiveness in contributing to the resulting diagnosis.
Musculoskeletal Imaging and Pathology
CT and MRI are fast becoming the gold standard for imaging of bone tumors, cysts,
and bone, joint, and soft tissue injuries. The challenges for technologists working
in these modalities is increasing steadily. This seminar will present a greater
understanding of various musculoskeletal disease states, the appearance of pathology,
as well as traumatic injury to the bones and joints and the role of MRI, CT and other
imaging techniques in diagnosis. An ability to recognize these pathological processes
in diagnostic images will greatly enhance the effectiveness of MSK exams and provide
useful insight to improve them.

Educational Objectives
At the completion of the seminar,
Pathology and Diagnostic Imaging,
participants will be able to:
- Identify thoracic and respiratory structures on routine imaging of the chest.
- Explain the influence of respiratory excursion when doing routine chest imaging.
- Define the silhouette sign as it pertains to routine chest imaging.
- Describe four types of atelectasis.
- Describe the radiographic features of emphysema.
- Explain the importance of patient age and lesion size when pertaining to a solid pulmonary nodule.
- List the two primary types of inflammatory bowel disease.
- List three differences between Crohn's disease and Ulcerative colitis.
- List three symptoms of colon cancer.
- Explain how a colonic polyp is diagnosed and treated.
- Explain two causes of hiatal hernia.
- Describe two radiologic signs of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
- List a major difference between a benign and malignant brain tumor.
- List five different type of brain tumor.
- Explain how primary brain cancer differs from secondary brain cancer.
At the completion of the seminar,
Musculoskeletal Imaging and Pathology,
participants will be able to:
- define certain musculoskeletal pathologies as they appear in MR and CT images
- identify disease processes and resulting lesions
- identify specific imaging protocols to demonstrate pathology
- describe the mechanism of fracture involving long bones, joints and bones of the vertebral column
- describe the radiographic characteristics of five bone tumors
- describe the complications of degenerative joint disease

About the Instructor
|
|
Paul F. Laudicina, MA, RT(R), FASRT, BCFE, DABFE, FACFE
"Top Tech"
|
|
Professor Laudicina has been instructing radiologic technologists much of his career.
Previously he was a professor at the College of Du Page in Glen Ellyn, IL for several
years and is currently a professor in the Radiologic Technology, CT, and MRI programs
at Long Beach City College, Long Beach, CA. Paul has shared his extensive knowledge
on many topics at MTMI seminars in the past. You are sure to learn a lot by attending
his programs.

|
Seminar Credit
|
|
These seminars provide 8 hours of Category A continuing
education credit for radiologic technologists each day. A
certificate of attendance will be provided for each individual
upon completion of each seminar. All attendees must attend the
entire seminar to receive full credit. Credit is awarded for
radiologic technologists as ARRT Category A Credit approved by
the ASRT, and credit from various licensure states.
At the completion of the entire 2-day conference, attendees
will have earned 16 hours of Category A credits.
