14th Annual Mammography Update for Physicists
Two Day Conference
15 Hours CAMPEP Credit
About This Seminar
Mammography continues to be the most effective line of defense against breast cancer. Survival from this terrible disease is significantly enhanced by the early detection and treatment of malignant breast lesions. The Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) was enacted to insure high quality mammography by all facilities offering this service. Medical physicists play an important role in assisting facilities to comply with these regulations. This seminar will help medical physicists and others keep up to date on the technological advances and state-of-the-art practices in this important field. This years program will include 6.75 hours on digital mammography to prepare individuals to assist with proper implementation of this technology as well as count toward the continuing education requirement for this modality. Three hours on stereotactic breast biopsy are also included.
Educational Objectives
The educational objectives
of this program are to:
  • Review practical tips for performing mammography machine surveys.
  • Share information with other attendees on problems related to quality control measurements.
  • Review and discuss issues with the quality control testing of digital mammography systems.
  • Learn the clinical procedures and problems of stereotactic breast biopsies.
  • Become familiar with technology developments for digital mammography systems for various manufacturers.
  • Review stereotactic breast biopsy machine testing procedures and results.
  • Become familiar with the clinical aspects of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Seminar Format
Each session/presentation in the seminar will be given in lecture format using audio-visual materials. A syllabus with supporting material for each presentation will be provided to all attendees as well as a CD-ROM of the slides presented. The exchange of practical experience between faculty members and attendees will be encouraged. Bring your questions and experience to share with others.
Who Should Attend
This seminar is for medical physicists wanting to review and learn more about the technical aspects of mammography as well as obtain the continuing education credits required by the MQSA regulations and ACR mammography facility accreditation requirements. It is also appropriate for medical physics students, residents and fellows, biomedical engineers, state and federal mammography facility inspectors, mammography technologists and others interested in the physics of mammography.
Conference Credit
This activity is designed to provide continuing education for the practicing clinical medical physicist as well as training for state and federal MQSA inspectors.

This seminar series has been approved by CAMPEP for up to 15 hours of Medical Physics Continuing Education Credit (MPCEC) for qualified medical physicists and includes 7.75 hours training on the surveying of digital mammography units.

An application for ARRT Category A credit for radiologic technologists has been filed.
