Musculoskeletal Imaging in the Digital World
8 Hours ARRT Category A Credit
Russell L. Cain, MA, MS, CRA, RT(R)(CT)
About this Seminar
Today’s radiology personnel must continue to educate themselves to best utilize the advancing technology of digital radiography, while maintaining proper positioning and technique to provide the best possible diagnostic image with the lowest patient dose. This seminar is designed to update your musculoskeletal radiography skills and improve your understanding of digital radiography. Anatomy, function and pathology of each major musculoskeletal system will be discussed. Proper patient positioning and dose optimization will also be discussed, as well as, common artifacts that you will find while utilizing digital radiography. Radiologic technologists, students and educators will find this an enjoyable and useful presentation.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss the anatomy and function of upper and lower extremities.
  • Discuss the dynamics of injury to the upper and lower extremities.
  • Apply routine and atypical positioning of all areas of the anatomy of the lower and upper extremity modified for Computed Radiography or Direct Digital Radiography systems.
  • Provide a simple explanation of how a Direct Digital Radiography image is obtained/optimzied.
  • Briefly and simply, discuss the technology of Computed Radiography and Direct Digital Radiography.
  • Discuss the application of the above techniques for improving quality of imaging studies while minimizing radiation exposure of the patient (Optimizing Dose).
  • Explain, simply, some of the more common artifacts associated with digital radiography.
