About this Seminar
Stereotactic breast biopsy is used to obtain pathologic information
from mammographic areas of suspicion. When a mass,
microcalcifications, or area of abnormal tissue change exist,
stereotactic breast biopsy offers a minimally invasive alternative
to open surgical biopsy often before a mass develops. This seminar
offers the attendee the opportunity to learn the basics as well as
the tricks of the trade from an experienced technologist and
supervisor. MTMI believes this education will bridge gaps in
training so that intelligent performance becomes your daily mode of
operation in your imaging centers. Critical thinking becomes
possible once attendees develop an understanding why and how this
procedure is done. In addition to covering quality assurance and
patient documentation, the seminar reviews the ACR accreditation
requirements and fulfills the credits required for accreditation.

Educational Objectives
At the completion of this seminar,
participants will be able to:
- relate the history of the development of invasive breast biopsy to current biopsy and needle options for detection of breast cancer.
- apply what is currently known about breast cancer statistics and characteristics to the detection, diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
- describe basic anatomy and function of the breast and use terminology to communicate effectively with all participants of the patient care team.
- develop an understanding of the principles of stereotaxis and patient positioning to facilitate successful, efficient and comfortable sampling of
all suspicious areas.
- recognize appropriate techniques that result in a sterile and analgesic biopsy.
- identify troubleshooting techniques to problem solve the challenges presented.
- summarize the steps to successful stereotactic breast biopsy from patient prep and tray set up through biopsy and into post care.
- define requirements for ACR stereotactic breast biopsy accreditation and reflect on how these standards improve the quality of care in your
center.
