Radiation Safety for the Technologist I

2 Hours ARRT Category A Credit
Debra Kendall, M.Ed., RT(R)(CV)(QM)(CT)
About this webinar
All forms of ioizing radiation have sufficient energy to ionize atoms that may weaken molecules within cells and lead to tissue damage. When ionizing radiation is not properly understood and controlled, it can be potentially hazardous to the health of our patients and health care workers. This webinar covers radiation exposure and monitoring with emphasis on measurment and protection, facilitating your understanding of radiation safety. At the conclusion, you can apply your prudent knowledge to providing life saving preventative and diagnostic exams at the lowest possible dose.
MTMI reccommends your participation in the webinar, Radiation Protection for the Technologist II. This webinar continues by covering biological aspects of radiation with the emphasis on minimizing patient exposure.
Educational Objectives
At the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
  • Differentiate between the following units:
    - Roentgen
    - Rad (Grey)
    - REM seivert
  • Explain the value of using the time distance and shielding triad.
  • Discuss the source of radiation dose and legal limits where relevant.
  • Define the types of protective devices available and their legal minimum equivalents.
