About this Seminar
This one day Breast Ultrasound Training is designed especially for sonographers of the Six Points Imaging Center.
This course will provide increased knowledge of the technical and clinical aspects of breast ultrasound as well as practical hands-on training of ultrasound imaging of the breast. An overview of the basic principles and techniques utilized in breast ultrasound will be presented. This course will be helpful for mammographers and sonographers who are directly involved in breast imaging and physicians whose practice includes women’s health. Participants should have an understanding of the basic concepts of mammography. If you are a mammographer looking for training in breast ultrasound or a sonographer wanting to review basic breast imaging skills, this course is for you. Sonographers and physicians wanting to learn breast ultrasound techniques would also benefit from this course.
This course will utilize a combination of lecture sessions and hands-on positioning workshops taught by an experienced sonographer and technologist.
Educational Objectives
At the completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
- Optimize preparation for ARRT and ARDMS Breast Ultrasound Registry exams.
- Understand how the basic principles and instrumentation of ultrasound affect the technique of breast ultrasound.
- Recognize normal breast anatomy on the ultrasound image and evaluate lesions for their benign or malignant features.
- Recall the mammographic and ultrasonic features of specific benign and malignant lesions.
- Explain the role and importance of mammography, ultrasound, MRI, nuclear medicine, and ductography in the work up and management of the breast.
- Recognize breast ultrasound artifacts, understand why they occur, and describe techniques to minimize the occurrence of those that degrade the image.
- Develop an awareness of the invasive procedures that are available, as well as the benefits and limitations of each.
- Define the different surgical and nonsurgical treatment options for patients who develop breast cancer.

Cheryl Seastrand has over 25 years of experience as a Breast Imaging Specialist. As a registered Mammographer and Breast Sonographer, Cheryl is committed to providing high quality development and delivery of education and training in Breast Imaging. She was on the ARRT Breast Sonography Practice Analysis Advisory Committee and has worked with additional professional affiliations on Mammography projects. Cheryl has a proven history of providing accurate, rational analysis and implementation of regulatory compliance and accreditation. Cheryl works extensively with breast imaging facilities nationally by providing competency assessment and recommended improvements to enhance breast imaging programs.

Judy has worked for Invision Sally Jobe and Radiology Imaging Associates in Denver, Colorado for 41+ years. She is a Radiologic Technologist, Mammographer, and Breast Sonographer. Judy‘s main role is to assist the Radiologists in all interventional breast procedures. Judy worked with Dr. Steve Parker, M.D., when he developed the minimally invasive needle breast biopsy in the late 1980’s. Judy has been involved with teaching breast biopsy procedures across the country since 1995. She enjoys sharing her clinical experiences and teaching the tricks of the trade.
