Overview
About this Webinar
These three Anatomy and Physiology webinars will provide a great refresher for seasoned biomedical equipment technicians, those new to the field, or those preparing for the CBET exam. You can take one, two, or all three webinars based on your continuing education or exam review needs. Each of these webinars also addresses some of the common pathology or diseases, and the devices used to treat them.
The focus of each of these webinars includes:
- Nervous and musculoskeletal systems
- Cardiovascular system
- Respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary systems
Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of these webinars: attendees should have a working knowledge and vocabulary of:
The Nervous and Musculoskeletal Systems Webinar
- Basic anatomy and structure of the central and peripheral nervous systems.
- Origin and measurement of biopotentials (EMG, EEG).
- Function and physiology of skeletal and smooth muscle.
- Basic function, bones, and joints of the skeletal system.
The Cardiovascular System Webinar
- Basic anatomy of the vasculature, valves, and chambers of the heart.
- Basic cardiac electrophysiology: origin and measurement of the ECG, atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, electrode placement, and ECG lead configurations.
- Invasive and noninvasive measurement of blood pressure and cardiac output.
- Pressure-volume relationships during the cardiac cycle.
The Respiratory, Circulatory, GI and GU Systems Webinar
- Basic anatomy and function of the respiratory system.
- Governing gas laws, and gas exchange
- Mechanics of breathing and pulmonary function testing
- Basic anatomy and function of the digestive system
- Basic anatomy and function of the urinary system

Name
Larry Fennigkoh, PhD, CCE
Dr. Larry Fennigkoh is currently an adjunct professor within the biomedical engineering program at the Milwaukee School of Engineering where he has taught a variety of courses in human physiology, engineering design, biomechanics, biostatistics, and electrical circuits.
Prior to joining MSOE full-time in 1998, Dr. Fennigkoh spent 22 years working in three different hospital systems managing in-house clinical engineering and HTM programs.
In 2017 Dr. Fennigkoh was inducted into the American College of Clinical Engineering’s Hall of Fame in recognition of his pioneering work in developing a medical device inventory inclusion algorithm that significantly reduced the maintenance and regulatory burden for many hospitals throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Dr. Fennigkoh also has considerable forensic engineering and expert witness experience associated with medical device-related patient injuries and deaths. He brings many examples and lessons learned from these cases into his courses.
Dr. Fennigkoh received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and the Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Wisconsin / Milwaukee. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer and certified in clinical engineering.
