Dr. Babette Zemel is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Director of the Nutrition and Growth Laboratory at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is also Associate Program Director of the Clinical and Translational Research Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Her global area of interest is growth and nutrition, and she has been conducting pediatric bone density research for twenty years. She has conducted numerous research studies to develop pediatric reference data for bone mineral density, and evaluate the effects of diet, physical activity and genetics on childhood bone mineral accretion. Her research utilizes DXA, peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) and high resolution pQCT. She co-chaired the ISCD Pediatric Task Force to develop the ISCD Pediatric Official Positions.
