About this Program

This webinar will present content on the thyroid, head/neck, and lymph node mapping examinations. Information included in the content will be: anatomical description, physiologic principles along with lab values, sonographic technique, pathology and alternative imaging of the thyroid, head and neck. Sonographic technique and pathology recognition will also be provided for the lymph node examination.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the macroscopic anatomy of the thyroid gland.
  • Summarize the thyroid cycle, as well as recall the hormones involved.
  • Describe the various pathological conditions that can be present in the thyroid.
  • Manipulate the transducer to produce a diagnostic ultrasound image of the thyroid and surrounding structures.
  • Locate specific lymph structures of the neck.
  • Relate the physiology and function of the lymph system in the neck.
  • Determine optimal patient positioning for lymph mapping.

Matt Ryan

MSHA, RDMS, RVT, RT(R)

Matt is currently the Clinical Coordinator for the Sonography Program at Aurora St. Luke’s School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. He is a registered Radiologic Technologist in Radiography and a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer registered in Neurosonography, OB/GYN, Vascular and Abdomen/Small Parts.  He is also a clinical instructor in MTMI’s Vascular Ultrasound Course and lectures extensively for local and national meetings.
